The biggest Quebec snow storm since 1972-73 has finally ceased.
DEC 17 2007: Shawinigan Quebec
- - Snow Storm Slams Quebec.
I heard the storm was heading up to Quebec, so I thought I had better
take cover. I headed to Motel Safari in Shawinigan in the Mauricie
region. The snow hit at seven am yesterday morning, and Bernard, the
owner here, went out to plow snow every hour, almost all night long.
Thankfully, this morning, the snow has stopped. It's feast or famine.
Last year we had none, this year we have too much.
"This is gonna cost me big time", said Bernard, referring
to the 100. bucks an hour he will pay later this week for a big loader
to come and remove the mountains of snow he has accumulated in his
parking area. "It's simple, if I don't get rid of it, I won't
have room to park my trailers when the boys come up to ride."
The snow and wind swirled around Bernard's high tech snow measuring
device all night long, but yielded less than impressive results in
the end. "We got a full three feet last night alone!"
said Bernard. "It pisses me off that my indicator can't show
the truth. It should read four feet at least."
My little car and sled are pretty much buried.
Ride Next Weekend?
No doubt many people will think about pinning the trailer right now
to come up and ride in Quebec, but you would be wise to wait for a
few days to allow our snow grooming machines to pack this down and
groom the trails. This will take a week at least. Good news is that
the temperature here has remained a good minus twenty on a constant
basis, which means, we will have a good base built before Christmas
that should serve us well all winter, and into the early spring.
