decided to brave the cold this weekend, and I went on a tour to Mount Laurier.
I left alone like a big girl. and I really had to have faith in my Polaris,
especially with the cold temperatures. It did not let me down. From the village
of St-Zenon to Mount Laurier, 150 miles, the 63 brought me to the first relay
Rouge Matawin in St-Michel, the one the Americans call "Salt and Pepper
Cafeteria".
J'ai décider de braver le froid se week-end, et aller
faire un tour a mont-laurier. Je suis partie toute seul comme une grande fille,
il faut vraiment que j'aille confiance en ma polaris, avec les froid qu'on
a eu cette fin de semaine. Et j'ai pas était déçu. Du
village st-zénon a mont-laurier. un parcourt de 150 milles aller.
le sentier 63, ma amener en premier au relais rouge matawin a st-michel. que
tous les américain appelle (la cafétéria) la j'ai renconter
deux bon amis Rod bourgoin et Dan DelBuono du connecticut. des gars qui
viennent faire souvent de la moto-neige dans notre région. de la je
suis partie direction la macaza, j'avait hate de voir le sentier, qui n'était
ouvert que depuis une semaine.le sentier était un peu bossue, parceque
la machinerie pour ouvrir le sentier était défectueux. rendu
au relais de la macaza, j'ai mis de l'essence, et pris un petit café
avec les deux gardien de la place, stéphanie deLafontaine et steven
hardy. il m'ont informer qu'il était toujours sur place en cas de besoin
la nuit. Aller cogner au bout a droite du relais et il se feront un plaisir
de vous dépaner pour le gaz ou contre le froid.
I met two good friends there, Rod Bourgoin and Dan DelBuono from Connecticut. These guys come to ride in our region often. I left toward Macaza, I put gas, and enjoyed a small coffee with the two gards of the place, Stephanie delaFontaine and Steven Hardy. They told me that they were always living there, in case I needed an emergency bed. Just go to the end on the right of the building and pound on the door, and we can help if you are in need, they told me.
De la encore deux bonne heures avant d'arriver a mont-laurier. Vous vous retrouver sur le sentier le train du nord, quelle beau sentier, des point de vue magnifique. J'aurai aimer prendre plus de photo, mais des petit problème avec ma caméra a cause du froid. Rendu a mont-laurier, j'avais pris une chambre au sénateur, hotel avec toute les commodités,bar restaurant surveillance des moto-neiges. pour les week-end vos mieux réserver. dimanche matin, il fait -32C...-23F, très humide. Les machines sont dure a partir.J'ai pris une seul photo dans le sentier le train du nord, et sait dimanche matin a -32C. a ma grande surprise la 63 traversant le parc avait était groomer. Elle était magnifique, un vrai tapis. Un beau 300 milles aller retour. Se qui me fait déja 1735 millles pour un mois pas pire. prochain voyage le tour du lac st-jean et le tour de la gaspésie . From there, another good two hours and I arrived at the Mount. You find yourself on the North Train trail, what beautiful country. I would have enjoyed bringing back a photo fopr you, but the camera froze up solid! I took a room at the Senateur motel, which has all the amenities, a bar, and good watchmen for security. You better book ahead on weekends. Sunday it was -32C and humid... cccold! The machines were hard to start. In the morning to my big surprise, the 63 trail was all groomed! It was -32. A nice 300 miles there and back. That makes for me 1735 miles for the month! Not bad. Next, I want to tour the Lac St-Jean and then on to the Gaspe! xxxooo LORY

Wolf Mountain is destination you
shouldn't miss: take the 63 in St-Zenon Quebec direction St-Michel-des-Saints.
On the way, take the 63 direction Coin Lavign. As soon as you are under the
big electric towers, turn right and follow the signs. This is especially beautiful
on nights when you have the full moon. We can see the tiny village of St-Zenon
all light up in the distance! Don't miss this! xxoo Lory
La montagne du Loup; c'est un point de vue sur les environs Pour si rendre
vous prener la 63 a St-zénon direction St-Michel. Sur votre trajet
vous aller rencontrer la direction Coin lavigne. Rendu sous les tour électrique,
tournée a droite et suiver les indications. Trait beau les soirs de
pleine lune. On voit au loin le village de st-Zénon tous éclairés.

Today we decided to stay in the our own local trails around St-Zenon and St-Michel. We left St-Zenon towards the Glaciere, very good conditions. We bought gas. The Glaciere gas is open 24 hrs 7 days a week. This is good service! This is great for those of us who enjoy night riding in St-Zenon.
Aujourd'hui nous avons décidé de rester dans
nos sentier. Départ du village de St-Zénon, direction La Glacière
la 343, en très bonne condition. Nous sommes passés prendre
de l'essence. '' En passant la station d'essence de la Glacière est
ouverte 24 heures, pour ceux
qui aiment se promener très tard''.
Heading down to Koubek on the 350, do not miss the beautiful waterfall on
your way! It is in a secret location, but I am going to try and get a sign
put up so that you too can enjoy it.
Direction Relais Koubek la 350, sur votre chemin, a voir une très belle
chute, l'emplacement n'est pas indiquer, mais je vais essayer d'y remédié.
Arriving at the Koubek Lodge and snowmobile relay, we find a very warm ambiance and good hospitality (Helen!) Try her chili, it is out of this world. The old hotel, (1890's) is closed now. Built of real logs, this was an old American Fishing club at one time. I look out the window, and I see a real treasure, the old log hotel now surrounded with trees hanging over it like a chapel. This place has a fascinating history, and the friendly owners will gladly share it ! (I think they've been there for 30 yrs or so.)
Arriver au Relais Koubek, endroit typique et chaleureux, ou vous pouvez vous
désaltérer et casser la crôute '' essayer son chili, il
est très bon. Juste a côté il y a une vielle hôtel
fermer. Construit en bois rond. Je n'est pas pu m'empêcher de regarder
par la fenêtre, un petit château qui renferme de beau trèsor
qui ont une grande histoire.
Leave Koubek on the 318. Hardly any traffic for a Sunday. The park is magnificent, with trees loaded with snow heaped on their branches. It is heaven. This trail leads us to Lake St-Stanislas to the Cabanon, where we enjoyed a nice dinner.It was a small day for mileage, but a dream compared to our last trip to St-Donat.

Départ du Relais Koubek, direction la 318. Très beau parcoure,
pas beaucoup de trafic pour un dimanche. Le parc est magnifique est surtout
les arbres charger de neige, ont se croirait au paradis. Ce parcourt nous
a mener a L'Auberge le Cabanon, pour prendre un bon souper.
Une petite journée de 114 milles, mais agréable comparer a notre
triple a St-Donat.

Dec 31 2003: Short Cut Through Montreal...
For all of you that arrive via the 401 from Ontario, and who want to avoid Montreal. Here is a way to avoid Montreal. After the 401, you roll on the 20 towards Montreal. You need to exit on the 13 North, in the direction of Laval. You roll a few more miles then take exit 440. Stay always on the 440 in the direction of Terrbonne. Stay on this route, and automatically fall onto the 25. Go straight toward the signs for Joliette. Then follow signs to St-Michel-des-Saints. Here are the villages you shd pass through.. St Felix de Valois, Jean de Mathas, St-Emilie de l'Énergie. At St-Emilie turn right at the big Pink Hotel. 15 minutes later you'll be in St-Zenon. St-Michel is 15 minutes more! Welcome to the paradise of snowmobile! Have fun! xxoo Lory !!
Pour tous ceux qui arrive par la 401en Ontario, et qu'il
veulent éviter Montréal. Voici un moyen de l'éviter.
Après la 401, vous rouler sur la 20 direction Montréal, vous
devez sortir a la sotie 13 Nord, direction Laval
Vous rouler quelque milles avant de prendre la sortie 440, rester toujour
sur la 440 direction Terrebonne
rester sur cette voie, et vous tomber automatiquement sur la 25, continuer
toujours droit devant vous direction Joliette.Vous aller vous retrouvez sur
la 131 a Joliette,suivre les indications St-Michel des Saint.
Voici les villages que vous devez traverser après Joliette. St-Félix
de Valois au bout de la route tournéé en gauche, St-Jean de
Mathas, St-Emilie de l'Énergie. A St-Émilie vous tournez a droite
dans le village, direction toujours St-Michel des Saint. Et enfin vous voila
arriver a St-Zénon. au Paradis de la Moto-Neige.Bon séjour parmi
nous.

We left on our sleds yesterday (the 27th), with the firm intention of going
all the way to Mount Laurier. There was me, my pal Greg Smith from PA, and
two Quebecer buddies. We got to Rouge Matawin for breakfast. To our great
disappointment, the 63 towards the Mount Laurier was closed. The trees were
too full of snow, and had bent trees and branches onto the trails. The trail
was blocked. The only other way to get there, would be to go to St Michel
des Saints and over via Parent. This would have doubled our mileage. So, we
decided to go by St-Donat.
Nous sommes partie en moto-neige hier, avec la ferme intention
de nous rendre a Mont-Laurier. Moi deux gars du Québec et un très
grand ami a moi Greg Smith de la P.A. Nous nous sommes rendu a la Rouge Matawin
pour déjeuner. A notre grand désespoir la 63 direction Mont-Laurier
est fermer. Les arbres trop charger par la neige ont cassé, et ont
bloqués la trail. le seul moyen de se rendre a Mont-Laurier, aurai
été de passer par St-Michel des Saint, et direction Parent.
Par cette trail ont venaient
de doubler notre trajet. Alors nous avons décidé de passer par
St-Donat........
I am disappoint. I do not recommend the section of St-Donat
and Notre Dames de la Merci. I did not find even a single mile that was not
full of bumps. from the Caribou trail the 310, in the direction of Notre Dame
de la Merci, to St-Donat, the lakes are not frozen, and for the trails that
encircle this sector, they have a lot of work to do in the trails, bridges
etc. And that's it! Trails towards St-Jovite are not yet open. We turned around
and came home.
je suis décourager, le secteur de St-Donat et Notre Dames de la la
Merci. Je déconseil se secteur a tous le monde. 1e: je n'est pas trouver
un mille dans la trail qui ne soit pas bosser, de la trail du Caribou la 310,
direction Notre-Dame de la Merci, 2e: secteur St-Donat....les lacs ne sont
pas geléés encore, pour les trails qui entoure le secteur .
chose certaine il y a beaucoup de travail a faire sur leurs sentiers de ce
secteur, pont, banalisation. Et sa s'arrête la, les autre trails direction
St-Jovite ne sont pas encore ouverte. Nous avons rebroussé chemin.
For the trails heading towards Macaza, they will not be open
till after the holidays. The trails around St-Zenon and St-Michel are magnificent.
Kudos to the Groomer drivers of our club! We thank you for these beautiful

secteur St-Michel et St-Zénon les trails sont magnifiques. Félicitation

SNOW!
Oct 2nd, and mother nature has given us a beautiful gift of a white coat.
White gold has fallen in big flakes this morning on St-Zenon. I hope this
year will be like last year. I hope that nature will once again spoil us with
an abundance of snow, from the end of October to the First of March... it
would be magnificent.

Le 2 octobre, et mère nature nous a fait cadeau de
son premier manteau blanc. L'or blanc tomber a gros floçons se matin.
J'espère que sa sera comme l'année passer. Que la nature va
encore nous gâter cette année. De la fin d'octobre au début
Mars....Sa serai magnifique.

Salut Zen, Hey Zen!
Sorry for not replying to your letter
earlier. Bow hunting for moose began on the 20th of September, and goes till
October 4th. After that, there is a week reserved for hunting small game,
with a firearm. I only know these dates, which only apply to my Zec (Lavign)
in St-Zenon.
Excuse-moi si je répond si tard a ton message. La chasse a l'arc a
débuter le 20 septembre jusqu'au 4 octobre. Après il y a une
semaine de relache pour le petit gibier et du 11 au 19 octobre sait la chasse
a la carabine. Je ne connait pas les date des autre parc, mais pour les zec,
voici les dates.
For my part, the hunt is over for this
year, because my partner and I bagged a beautiful female, two and a half years
old, on Sunday September 27th, at 8:40 am.
Pour ma part la chasse et terminer cette année, car ma parteneur a
tuer une belle femelle de 2 ans et demi, dimanche matin a 8hrs 40. le 27 septembre
2003.
In the Zec, you need two permits for one moose. It is different this year; we were allowed to shoot the females as well as the males, unlike other years, where we had to draw (lottery) to be able to shoot a female.
Dans les zec sa prend 2 permis pour un orignal. Se qui est différent cette année nous avons droit de tirer la femelle aussi. Pour la femelle dans les années présédente notre nom devait être piger pour avoir le droit de tirer .
My partner's name is Murielle Bruneau,
nick name Mumu. She is five foot nuthin', and fifty nine years.
Ma partenaire qui s'appelle Muriellle Bruneau (mumu) et déja rendu
a son deuxième orignal. C'est une petite femme de 5 pied, qui a 59
ans .
And, she shoots like a champion, as
good with a bow as with a rifle.Two years ago, she shot another female with
a rifle. She did that at a distance of 400... try that sometime!
Et qui tire comme une championne aussi bien a
l'arc qu'a la carabine. Il y a deux ans elle a tuer une autre femelle, a la
carabine. Elle a reussi dans une distance de 400 pieds. il faut le faire.
As for me, I would have loved to try
hunting with my cross bow this year, but that will have to wait for next fall.
Yup... since last year, we have the right to shoot a cross bow in the Zec,
at the same time as the bow hunt.
Pour ma part, j'aurai bien aimer essayer mon arbalette cette année,
mais sa sera pour l'année prochaine. Ha oui depuis l'année passer
nous avons droit de chasser avec l'arballette dans les zec, durant la chasse
a l'arc.
