Sneak Preview of 2009 Calendar Photo Session

Lets start with the man who dreamt up this whole swimsuit model calendar project. Meet Travis. 34 years young, father of three boys, and husband to a very patient, open minded, and tolerant wife - Teresa. I stress the word tolerant. I was married once, and between you and I, women are a little iffy about this type of project, even on the best of days. You are a lucky man to have such a wonderful partner! Without her, we would not be reading this story, that's for sure.

Don't worry girls, Travis is a good Daddy, and he helps out in the home. Keep it up Travis! And here's some free advice from the Zenman - I think during the shoot week, you should always do more than usual around the place, and be sure to treat your wife with lots of kindness. She's a darn good sport. I think a fancy night out - perhaps even a dinner theatre date is in order, right?

This is two year old Treyse, number two son, with Dad in the back yard. This little guy has energy to burn. He never stops. Dad bought his boys a 1983 Yamaha SS 440. They'll all get a chance to ride it eventually.

I jump into the truck and we head for the local shopping mall parking lot, our first redevous point, to meet all the models, and sled owners, who have trailered in their tricked out machines. This photo shows the heart of Travis's local support group. On the left is Timothy from Pike Graphics, Tim creates all the deigns for the calendars and the web site. Ray on the far right, had his mountain mod on the 2008 Calendar- it was the August sled. Five year old Kaeden is excited about the shooting - learning the ropes fr the future! He loves it. Dani, a local snowcross competitor and part time model. She's ready to rock.

Travis walks over to greet these two as they arrive with their trailers. They are Todd and Jimmy. They brought two vintage snowmobiles, a 1976 Mercury Snow Twister, and a 1975 Viking snowmobile. This year, Travis is going to feature an vintage snowmobile, to honour the pioneers of our sport.

Ron enjoys the breakfast of champions, and is hoping it will ease his monster hangover. Ron owns a dozen or more vintage sleds, and has the collecting bug. Minutes later, we headed out to the lake.

Dani, is our first model today. Here she is scoping out our first location on the edge of Cannon lake, right outside of Faribault Minnesota. The temperature is 37F, with no wind. The light is dull with heavy overcast. Nevertheless, the even lighting is not a bad thing, and will be complimented by a powerful electronic flash.

Wendi Shinkle of Satio Photography gets her team organized, and Dani strips down into her bikini. Ooooh - it's ccccold out here!

Kurt from Speedwerx in Forest Lake Minnesota, gives the snowmobile a quick wipe down, so that it will be perfect in the shoot. Speedwex is an important sponsor of the Double Xtreeme snowmobile calendars, and is well known in the industry for leading the way in maximizing high performance for serious snowmobilers.

Here we see Aaron from Satio Photography, applying cooking oil to Dani's body. The oil makes her skin shine and accentuates her tan. The oil brings definition to the muscle tone, and brings out the highlights and the curves.

And so, Dani starts to pose with direction from the photographer.

Here we can see that Dani is in real pain. The cold is real, and this really is a JOB, and this really is WORK. Where the hell are the offers from the photographers on the tropical beaches? After about 20 minutes, I offered her my coat, to which she replied "no, I'm fine." But when I saw her lips were trembling, I told her to wrap it around her and she did.

Dani worked it, for over an hour in the cold, but still had one more brave smile for me when I saw her getting dressed in a snowmobile trailer, with the door wide open. There's no star treatment here, just snow, ice, and cold air. But I say she IS A STAR, and very courageous. Good work Kid. It's a wrap!

Bob and Tom of White Litening Snowmobiles in Ramsay Minnesota, unload a work of art into the Souhern Minnesota Woodcraft manufacturing facility, in Faribault. This is our second location. Here we shoot four more hot sleds, and I start to loose track. There are so many sleds, and so many models, all swirling around me. The action is intense. The trailers come and go, and the crew buzzes in the makeshift studio. Beautiful swimsuit models in stiletto heels dazzle us as they walk by. We stand in awe, drool running down our shirts. In between times, I interview some of the guys and we talk about the mountain mods or about antique sleds that await their turn under the studio hot lights.

On it goes, throughout the afternoon.

Rhonda and Whitney go to work. There was about ten of us guys standing around. We helped get sleds in and out of the studio, and got to watch the action up close. 'Give me more'... more hip... Less shoulder... turn your upper body towards me... Give me more cleavage! On it went. For us boys watching, it was a living hell. (Remember, these are just my crappie photos with my little camera - - the real photos will come in the new 2009 swimsuit calendar!

Tara is from Minneapolis. She is a full time college student and a part time model. Here she gets oiled. I think I'll apply for this job next year - to be the official Oil guy. Can you say "Massive Coronary?" oOOO lA lA! hELP mE! Rhonda, from Mankato MNPLS, loves modelling, and is featured on the Double Xtreme Arctic Cat Poster.

Meet Bob! This unit is now worth upwards of 25K- it's all aluminum and Titanium. Bob builds race cars in the summer, and sleds in the winter.

Tom brought his current ride... a beautiful mountain mod worth a pile of cash, and performs just the way he built it to ride.

The light is starting to fade, but we have two models yet to shoot outside, and the thermometer has dropped. It's cold out there! We go back to a second location on the lake. Get the oil. It's COLD!

Suddenly I am warm again, but the Yamaha is hot.

More shooting. We get her done.

Now it's Whitney's turn again. Everyone is tired and cold, so they work fast.

Oooo La La. How can she look so hot in this weather?

Well that's it.

Sorry it took me so long to finish this. I am a bit worn out this time of year.

I have added a few videos, enjoy. I did! Thanks Travis.
