Incredible
photos of the Alaska Railroad (thanks Bernard)
Canada's JEFF HEALEY, passes from Cancer. Miss you Man.

Click Photo
to enlarge. March 5 2008: - - Monts Vallin in Chicoutimi Quebec,
four hours north of Quebec City, is a famous mountain plateau region,
that has five feet of snow in November, and even more all the way through
to April. This is where we ride when there is no snow left in the rest
of the province. Read Bill's report. Thanks Bill for taking the time
to write
in and send the photos. You are now an official Zen Star Reporter,
and a huge pay check is in the mail! (actually, no cash, but if you
send me your home street address, I will ship you a very nice calendar!)

March 3 2008 -Somewhere in the Quebec bush - - Photo and report from
Rex Ennis - here seen sitting on his Yamaha RX1, with over 8,000
miles on it. "Zen: I am home after a less than great trip.
1st. While cruising along Trail 93 around Mont Valin, one of our group
blew an engine in the middle of nowhere, of course. We had reservations
that night at the Motel Cornet in Sacre Coeur. By the time we got the
machine to a place with a phone it was after 6PM. I called the Cornet
and told them we had sled problems and could not get there for our reservation.
They informed me that as I had not called before 4PM they would not
accept cancellation and they were still going to charge my credit card.
Now I realize that hotel and motels DO NEED guaranteed reservations,
but I also know that, when catering to snowmobilers a certain
amount of latitude should be extended. Sledders are often out of cell
phone range especially in northern Quebec. There was no way to call
the motel by 4PM. Thus, I would not recommend the Motel Cornet to other
sledders.

Meet Angus the Snowman - Over 100 feet
tall in Bethel Maine
The Worlds Tallest Snowman was built to bring attention to the
Bethel area and allow the total community to come together for a project.
The people of Bethel and the surrounding area worked 5 months to plan
and build the 1137 tall snowman which broke the former record
held by Yagamata, Japan of 967. At 9:30 am on Wednesday,
February 17, 1999 the record was officially broken. Two town officials,
a regional photographer, a videographer, a licensed professional surveyor
and the president of the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce were on hand
to verify the actual size and height for the Guinness Book of Records.

Carole Jolin spent the day with Bob Petit, riding her
ATV on fine Quebec winter quad trails, to raise cash for Breast Cancer
research. Carole is the Editor of the French magazine for all Quebec
ATV enthusiasts,
'Sentier Quad'. In recent years, there has been an explosion
of winter ATV activity in Quebec - new winter trails are being created
all over, and memberships in local ATV clubs has gone ballistic. I encourage
all visitors to Quebec, to bring along your ATV as well as your snowmobile,
because enjoying winter and the beauty of Quebec, is what it's all about!
Because of record snowfalls, this winter has been exceptional for all
outdoor sports in Quebec - skating, sledding, dog sleds, hockey, and
especially ATVing through the countryside. Come discover another side
of winter with Bob and Carole.

Ontario's Tobasco Boys Head for the
Rock

Last winter the Tabasco boys from Ontario headed up to
Temiscamangue to start their annual, ball busting treck, but this year,
things should hopefully go a bit better - they are going to Newfoundland!
I interviewed Gerry M this morning, so go have a listen to the new Podcast.
Their eight snowmobiles have already arrived in Cornerbrook, their starting
point, and the boys will all fly in tomorrow at noon. They will be contacting
me from the trail, so, as usual, I hope we get some fresh trail pics
and some more radio talk of of them. Good luck bys, and watch out for
that Stretch!

Mar 29th 2005: Fire at the Refuge
At 5 am Mar 29th 2005, there was a fire reported to
the local fire department. The Refuge Inn was ablaze on Lake Stanislas.
This evening, my good friend and ambulance driver Rolland Thibeault,
went to the site on my request, and confirmed to me that the Refuge
has indeed burned to the ground.
I was told it burned very quickly, and by the time the
fire department arrived, it was too late. The road is totally sealed,
and investigators will arrive in the morning. Apparently, security is
very tight, because human remains have been discovered in the ashes.
Niether Crazy Al nor Danny were available for comment,
they both appear to be missing. Please pray for our friends, we do not
know where they are. Let us hope they escaped unharmed. zen Remember

Sacandaga NY snowmobiler was drunk,
died of hypothermia after Wreck
Feb 27: BROADALBIN NY -- An autopsy shows that the 49-year-old man who
froze to death after crashing his snowmobile on Great Sacandaga
Lake was legally drunk when he died, authorities said. Shawn Simboli,
who died overnight Sunday after seeking shelter in an ice fishing shanty
about two miles from the crash, had a blood-alcohol level of .16 percent,
Fulton County Sheriff Tom Lorey said today. The number is twice the
legal limit of .08 blood-alcohol level.

Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon
tries a Segway transporter.

Feb 27 2008: MONTREAL - - The Bombardier distributed
'Segway', billed as the next big thing, is still finding
its place after hype 5 hours ago. What is "it" doing now?
"It," as it was referred to before people knew what it was,
is the Segway Personal Transporter. It was supposed to be the next big
thing when it was unveiled in 2001 after a lot of hype about what it
could do to move people around in urban settings. The Segway is an electric
scooter that's able to balance itself upright, making it difficult for
its user to fall off or tip over. Seven years later, the Segway is still
trying to get a bigger spot on sidewalks in Canada and wider use.

Feb 26 2008 - - Montreal Quebec: Zen: How are you? The
snowmobiling in Quebec does not get any better. We are forecast to get
more snow and it if it continues it will break the record set in 1971
so it has been a good year. Here are some photos of the riding around
Montreal, I have not needed to travel much this year as there is so
much in town I am able to leave from my house which is great. These
are photos of the trails in the Monteregie Ouest area, Dalhouise
Quebec and Rigaud. // Pat G.

30 car pile Up - - Snowmobiler involved
in highway Crash

E-mail sent to Motel Safari yesterday: "Hi,
yesterday coming home from Quebec after a great 6 day ride Ted and
I were in a 30 car pileup. Neither of us were injured, but the trailer
was demolished and the sleds not much better. Mine is the one upside
down by the police car. The sleds flew about 30-40 feet over our truck.
Mine landed upside down. Jay" see

Feb 21 2008 - - Salem WISCONSIN: For most people
older than 10, the 2007-08 winter simply cannot end fast enough. One
group of Coulee Region residents, however, are reveling in the cold

talking about the snowmobile sales which are brisk, indeed. An
avid snowmobiler himself, hes also describing the opportunity

Feb 18 2008; Kelvington Sask - - Although it's
minus 27 degrees Celsius, and the blistering wind is howling across
the open landscape, love is still alive and well, in the prairie warming
huts! Stan and Monica L. have been married for thirty years, and ride
over 5,000 kms a year on their Skidoos. They have raised two beautiful
daughters to keep the sledding tradition alive in Saskatchewan, and
one day may have grandchildren who will take up the sport. On Monday,
their girls with their partners, will join the couple on a ride to Yorkton
Saskatchewan where snowmobile festivities are happening all weekend.
Farming the land keeps this couple working hard throughout most of the
year, but the dead of winter is reserved for snowmobiling. They
belong to the Kelvington
Trail Blazers snowmobile club. Here in Saskatchewan, snowmobiling
is all about family and community. Click

Feb 14 2008: Joliette QC - - On Thursday, Bob Petit
celebrated his 44th year of snowmobiling by test driving the 2009
Bombardier offerings, at a special demo ride in St Roch de Achigan
close to the city of Joliette. "Zen, I rode the sled of my
dreams, said Petit, "It is so quiet, no one can hear
you coming. Also, they have removed all the smell of exhaust. The
power of the 1200 is awesome, and there is something new with the
clutch too, because when you touch the throttle, you go instantly.
40 years ago, I told my friends that one day, there would be a silent
snowmobile that had no smoke, it would be electric, I thought. Well,
here it is today, only it is still a gas engine, but this 2009 model
delivers double the gas mileage. An amazing machine!" click to

10 snow machine safety snowmobile tips
Snowmobiling is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy our winter season.
However, according to the Canadian Institute for Health Information,
snowmobiling is the number one cause of winter sports and recreation
related severe injuries. Riding responsibly is a personal choice that
must be made every time someone starts up a sled. Snowmobile operators
are urged to use common sense, exercise caution and slow down. If
you dont know, dont go. 1) ALWAYS RIDE SOBER: Operating
a snowmobile requires all your faculties, alertness and awareness.
Alcohol compromises your ability to drive responsibly. Stay safe

sober.

Zenwaiter's 2008
Sponsor of the Year

Several years ago, Doug Milheim of Connecticut,
started sponsoring the Zenwaiter website, because he loved snowmobiling,
and loved the honest information that he found on our web site. Back
in the day, he could read reports and see photos of the St-Zenon snowmobile
trails that we provided on a daily basis, because we were actually
located in that area. Zenwaiter's reporting has since evolved into
a regional and national web site, and now provides reports on a wide
range of snowmobile news. Meanwhile, Doug and his company Accurate
Wire, has never stopped sponsoring us, even though he doesn't
get the same local reporting he once had. His support has been selfless
and unconditional. After all, do you think he is selling wire by supporting
this crazy web site? It's not like he was renting hotel rooms!
Like everyone else, Doug has probably been getting his honest local
weather and trail info from bulletin board style web sites like Hardcore
Sledder, Trail Conditions.com, and Quebec Rider. Honest information
is everywhere now. Before this information explosion, which we
now take for granted, unscrupulous motel operators would lie about
the amount of snow, and the condition of the trails. They would encourage
sledders to make long expensive trips, only to find it was pouring
rain. Now-a-days, that practice is impossible, thanks to the generosity
of good people like Doug, who supported the pioneer efforts of Zenwaiter,
who led the charge to provided honest information to far away snowmobilers.
The little guys " have triumphed over the inequities of the
selfish, and the tyranny of evil men" Hooray! This is the
reason that Accurate
Wire is Zen's Sponsor of the Year, 2008!
Thanks man! zw
"Accurate Wire
was formed in 1988 by Douglas J. Milheim and Matthew B. Smith, with
a combined total of over 60 years experience in manufacturing specialty
wire. Originally founded to manufacture square and round wire for
electronic connector applications, Accurate Wire expanded its equipment
base to allow the production of flat and special shaped wire."
