NY Snowmobile group's
use of PAC money is slippery Politics
Nov 11, 2007 - - NEW YORK STATE - - The last couple winters have been
a dreadful disappointment for the snow enjoyers, and a killer economically
for those relying on the mechanized winter sports, namely
snowmobiling. No snow in the Adirondacks. No snow around
Sacandaga reservoir. Service businesses that need the snow
economy hurting badly. Snowmobile sales dropping out of
sight. Last winter, I saw any number of those expensive machines
up for sale by private owners along road sides. All winter long. Statewide
registration of snowmobiles dropped by 25,000 last year, and
there was a drop the year before, too.

Michigan's UP - sold 30,000
less passes last year- Hurting Now
... "So now the snowmobile association funds are in question/jeopardy
due to the State budget issues. These are supposed to be protected
funds but with trail permits down 30,000 last year (that isnt
dollars; that is permits) even the protected funds are suffering.
But there are other problems in the mix of grooming or not grooming. Read
this snowmobile blog- one of my favorites, here.

Cool new exclusive snowmobile helmet design from Choko
Nov 7 2007; I met up with Phil from Choko at the Snowmobile Exhibition

Lack of groomed
trails expected to hurt Cornerbrook
Economy
Nov 6 07 - - Cornerbrook
NFLD - -The Trail Blazers executive announced it
wouldnt be able to continue grooming the hundreds of kilometres
of snowmobile trails in its jurisdiction late last week. The
snowmobile clubs website said the organization is going
to be officially dissolved. However, Trail Blazers president
Wilf Curlew said the club hasnt disappeared. We havent
folded yet, Curlew said. Weve just realized that
we cant groom our trails this winter unless we get unless
we get some more financial support and more volunteers. Ive
got a meeting with the snowmobile federation this week to try
and come up with a solution. But as it stands now, we just dont
have the bodies to keep the groomers running. Get

Yellowstone sleds: Snowmobiles should
be phased out
Nov 1, 07 The sounds of Yellowstone in winter should be the
whoosh of a geyser or the gurgle of water running beneath a blanket
of snow, not the whine of a snowmobile. Mechanized noise stresses
not only human visitors but the animals who struggle to survive the
cold and lack of food.

In Greece New York, Snow
fun is this crowd's way of life
(Oct 29, 2007) GREECE NY Even when he's cruising on the water
in July, Jim Meyer lets his fellow boaters know he's just passing
time until snowmobile season. "Waitin' 4 Winter," the name
of his craft, is proudly painted on the hull. "I like the freedom
of it, the acceleration," said Meyer, president of the Hilton
Sno-Flyers snowmobile club, who was in his element Sunday at
the group's 11th annual Snow Show at the Doan Dodge Chrysler
Jeep Superstore. Meyer, 49, of Greece, walked around the showroom
filled with vendors selling snowmobiles, trailers, helmets,
clothing and even insurance. Get this NY snowmobile story now...
Preserving Polar Bears for Posterity
There isn't much else, other than ice and snow and a biting wind,
on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen. But there are polar bears.

Bombardier Recall for Leaking
Gas Tanks
Two Bombardier snowmobile models need repairs before they hit the
trails. The 2008 Ski-Doo MX Z and Summit models have fuel tanks that
could crack, allowing fuel or fuel vapour, or both, to leak and possibly
ignite. Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the fuel tank.

Vive le Canada!
Oct 23 2007: With winter coming on maybe youre interested in
a new snowmobile. Well Quebec based Bombardier makes, ships and sells
a long line of summer and winter recreational equipment in the U.S.
In fact if you want to purchase their Renegade X 800 snowmobile in
the U.S. it will run you about $10,000. In Canada expect to pay at
least $13,000 to $14,000 for the same machine. Until the recent rise
in the Canadian dollar Bombardier's standard policy was to impose
a 7.5 per cent surcharge on sales to Canadian customers in the U.S.
The same Canadian consumers/taxpayers who bailed them out countless
times. Just this month Bombardier expanded their policy to charge
7.5 per cent or $1,250 whichever was higher. Later they raised
the rate to $3,000 and now, taking a cue from the highly subsidised
Canadian Auto industry, Bombardier is telling U.S. retailers not to
sell to Canadians at all. Vive le Canadian tax bailouts! Get
