SON OF ZEN & SON OF ZEN II
Fly to Hotel Sacacomie on the lake.

June 12 2003

Bernard from the MOTEL SAFARI in Shawinigan Quebec, gave me a call a few days ago, and told me that he'd like to invite my boys up for a flight in a float plane, so they could see the beauty of Quebec from the air.

As it turned out, there was also room in the plane for Bernard and myself.

As you can see, we were happy to go along for the ride.

Each of the boys took their turn at playing pilot. They did well.

Once we were airborne, Bernard pointed out the new work
being done on the Shawinigan power plant. Quebec, he said,
provides twenty-five percent of all New York's hydro electric
power.

Austin was pleased to be the passenger on the way out.

In a few short minutes, we were flying at 3,600 feet, and the
lakes below became luxurious blue pools surrounded by a lush
green carpet of trees.

After fifteen minutes of flight, we descended over the fabulous
Hotel Sacacomie on the lake. Zen got nervous when the pilot
banked hard to negotiate the final leg of the flight, but got a
good photo because of it.

Bernard and Zen struggled to climb the long steep
walkway that led to the top of the hill, and the boys ran
ahead at full speed. I told Bernard to quit smoking, and
he told me to looses some weight. We were pathetic.

We were greeted in the main lodge entryway, by the
beautiful Miss 'Colombe'. She led us on a quick tour
of the facilities, and gave us some promotional materials.
Zen fell in love... again. Bernard almost had a stroke.

Once on the fabulous balcony terrace overlooking Lake
Sacacomie, Zen ran into some friends from Hamilton
Bermuda; Ross Spurling and Libby Durrant. It's a small
small world.. eh? Zen says HELLO to Chalky White as
well back home.

Time to get back to Turtle Lake in Shawinigan, and it's
Austin's turn to fly. Good job son!

Bernard and I were relieved to be back on solid ground.
We took our group photo with our pilot, centre, and one of the
other pilots, Simon.

All around the dock, there were float planes ready to go.
Aviation Mauricie in Shawinigan on Lac des Tortue, owns and
operates four sea planes; two Beavers, and two Cessnas.

There are many planes tied down around the hangers.

Our sincere heart felt thanks go out to Aviation Mauricie,
to our pilot, and to the owners, for making
our high adventure possible. If you need a float plate to go
fishing in Qubec, you can call them, or better yet, just get
a hold of Bernard at the Safari in Shawinigan South.
