Always 5 feet of snow from Nov to April
Drive north from Quebec
City only 4 hours, and you'll be in the city of Chicoutimi. Drive
another 25 kilometers and you are at the foot of one of the best snowmobiling
regions in Quebec. Drive another 30 kilometers straight up, and you
have arrived on the Mountain plateau that has 600 kilometers of groomed
trails.
I stayed the first night at the River Inn. It is a small chalet with
no standard electricity deep in the woods. This photo makes it look
tiny, but it has lots of room. Brand new construction, but 100 complete
inside.
This is the view ay 6am from the rooms upstairs, where I slept very
well on a new foam mattress with clean new linens.
The fire box keeps the place toasty and warm.
There are ten bed upstairs, perfect for the sledder!
Richard prepares the sled, we are heading out to eat breakfast 15
miles down the trail at the LaChapel gas relay.
Richard stops along the way to show me the beauty of this place. 600
miles of trails at about 3000 feet elevation. They have to groom them
from November 1st to the end of April!
Smooth. They have several big new groomers.
The phone booth contains a special radio phone. Calling up here is
a real problem.
Unsurpassed beauty, not a problem. It's everywhere.
Beautiful vistas.
Trails wind up and around the mountains.
Lakes are everywhere.
Where to Eat?
La Chapelle Snowmobile Relay.
These two gals (mother and daughter) look forward to feeding you delicious
hot poutine covered in cheese, or a good spaghetti dinner with meat
balls. They also serve a full breakfast and burgers all day long.
The cold beer and hot coffee awaits you. This place is called the
LaChapel relay. They will give you the local maps for free.
