January 18 2008
Over five feet of accumulated snow in most snowmobile regions of Quebec,
took a nasty hit around the 10th day of January, with three days of
heavy rain. Now the snow is gone around the Montreal and south shore
areas, but to the north, over two feet has survived, leaving the trail
base undamaged - in fact, they are even better than before. Cold temperatures
have persisted over the past week, and the trails are looking great.
Conditions are very good to Excellent, and traffic is low this year.
Most motels have lowered prices a bit to accommodate the American currency,
and we await your calls!
Dec 8th 2007
Many snowmobile clubs in many regions have already started grooming
the trails as there has been over two feet of snow in the past two weeks.
Usually they run the tracktor over the trails first which can take a
week or more, then they pull the scraper behind the tractor to smooth
out the trail. Call the motel where you are staying to get updated information.

motels here.

Snowing in many parts of Quebec today with accumulations of 4 inches
and up from the Laurentians on up. More snow over the next 24 hours
and cold. Looks like we may be- MAY BE in for an early season! In many
regions there is already a foot or more of snow. Call your motel for
details.

Feb 18:
Almost all of our sponsors are reporting positive trail reports for
their regions since the last big dump of snow recieved this past week,
from 6 inches to 1.5 feet of snow - please call them directly for a
good honest report.
Feb
14 Valentines Snow Storm heading into Quebec and Ontarion, shd get 30 - 5- cm
of snow.
Feb 4th ST_ZENON _ ST_MICHEL_DES_SAINTS:
Just got back from St Zenon this evening. Was up there for 6 days and rode 900
miles. The area recieved at least a coupel inches of snow Friday PM and was still
snowing at 6:00 AM when we left La Cabbonon Saturaday morning. Overall, trails
are good, but you must watch out for the occaional rock. There are more than a
couple , but not so many as toi cancell any of y9our trip. read more below...
The exception to the good trails
is 318 to St. Michele from La Cabanon. It was traveled way to much and is in need
of alot of snow to cover the rocks and smooth it out. 345 to the dam from La Cabanon
was getting thin but the new snow should help. They are doing a great job working
with the snow that they have and it is amazing how the trails can go from good
in the AM to junk in the PM to good in the AM the next day. It seems like they
are trucking snow to the trails. We stayed at LaCabanon for the week and made
the following trips. 345 to Repos and Manawan, trail was good to excellent except
for about 7 miles where they seemed to have widened the trail amd ot was rough.
Took 33 (good to excellent) south to St. Michele and 318 (Junk) back to La Cabanon.
About 190 miles roundtrip with 20 miles being bad. Day 2, Over to La Glaciar via
350 (good) out through Tremblant park and down to St. Donat and over to St Come
and back to La Cabanon. i think about 200 miles and again most trails were good.
The Park was fast but not as fast as usual as you were never sure about the corners.
Day 3, 345 north to 31 south(good to excellent) to Lac Sacacomie and up to Kubecs
and Real Masse and back to La Cabanon We rode some trails that were not on the
map. They were groomed and the only signs were to get yuou back to La Cabanon.
I t felt like we were going in circles and we finally did make it back. These
trails were in great shape and Dennis at LaCabanon said he opened them up because
the snow was good and go have fun. Day 4 was 345 north across the dam to 360 east(stupid
fast) to Manawin down the river(somewhat smooth but not like glass) to 318 west
back to LaCabonon. Day 5 was back down south to Lac Blanc on the new trails and
day 6 was a short day to Cananda Adventure via 345 north to 360 west (very fast)
and back the same way we went to avoid bad trails in St Michele.
If
you have a trip planned, I would go. If you have been their before when snow has
been deep, it is not like that , but it is still good and you will get in some
good riding.
Rubberside down!

25: Safari in Shawinigan; Bernard says Pamela Anderson is staying at his motel
this weekend. I have my doubts. Anyways here is what he told me -most trails
in Shawinigan open and good conditions -47 north is not complete -318
to Quebec doesn't go through all te way -take the 3 to Quebec City it is open
-All around QCity is bumpy, too many riders at once -L'Étape and St-Raymond
major traffic, not much new snow.
GASPE: Got
32 inches of snow, all trails reporting good to excellent. Patsy says all her
trails are groomed no problems, I think that grooming 32 inches of snow is a big
job, and feel it will take a few days ( a week) to get everythig right, but I
am not there to see it. If you go up there pls send me a report.

Esterel: Zen my conditions are alot better
my trail 33 is 8 out of 10. My trail 43 is a 8/10. Both trails have been freshly
groomed. Thank God - my groups are starting to arrive my guys (20) will be in
tomorrow from PA.. Jerry the Americans think that I have no snow here, but it
is not true! I can ride all the way up to St Michel des Saints no problem - and
Matawan and the park and St Donat.! The trail is great! please let them know.

CAME BACK FROM RIDING QUITE LATE, TRAILS FROM ESTEREL TO NOTRE DAME DE LA MERCI
ROUGH BUT FROM NOTRE DAME DE LA MERCI TO ST DONAT GOOD, MY GROOMER WILL GO OUT
THERE AGAIN TODAY BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT ENEOUGH SNOW INSIDE THE SOOD AREA, I
STILL NEED ANOTHER 6 INCHES TO COVER ROCKS, AND FILL UP HOLES.
Mékinac;
I spoke with Club La Tuque this morning, The groomer left La Tuque to come to
my place today and it should arrive tonight. This is for the 355 Pipeline trail.
Also they said , they are doing the La Tuque - Relai 22 and that should take 2
days. Also they will be doing the Mattawin to La Tuque by the national park of
MAuricie. The only problem is that Mattawin will not be connected to Mekinac because
the 347 River part for one mile connecting the 2 is not opened because Club Mattawin
feels the ice is not thick enough. The 347 River part from Mekinac to Grand-Mere
(20 miles stretch) is not opened and will not be opened for at least one week.
I will post when it will be. So from Mattawin, if you want to go Mekinac, St-Joseph
de Mekinac, Ste-Tite, Grand-Mere, Shawinigan, you have to be trailered or you
make the big loop to La Tuque by the 347 and come back from the 355 - 318 etc...

Safari Motel - currently 0 C - 32 F. Rain
comming this afternoon. Trails still closed. No snow in forecast. Bernard cancelled
all reservations.
Auberge Beaulieu - Mékinac;
snowing this morning - groomer past Wed between St-Tite St-Joseph de Mekinac,
Jean is out on the sled. Trail to La Tuque is weak in spots. LaTuque groomer has
not gone yet. Some locals are riding now, but it is not reccommended to drive
all the way up. Dianne and Jean look fwd to seeing you WHEN the snow falls.
The
Chute - Soke to Map Man Denny this morning, he rode around a bit yesterday,
and says yes, there are a few guys riding in the St-Michel-des-Saints area, but
trails are rough in many spots. Hills are often bare, and there are potatoes everywhere.
You can ride through the park, but any junctions of places where you have to cross
a road, are very rough. It is typical early season conditions, only worse. Need
snow. He has told his clients to stay home for another week. Groomer tried to
go out, but no use. The lake out in fron of the Chute has a growing black pool
of water on it, but the weatherman says it will be getting cold again soon, with
snow. They have had a meager 3 inches of snow over the past four days.
Val
D'Or - No grooming yet, but crews are out there with chain saws clearing brush
etc, they are way behind schedule. You can ride through the bush, but be prepared
for anything. "Trails are simply NOT READY".

do you find yourself checking this web site more than once a day? Do you find
you have never donated a cent, and yet have been enjoying the site for a while?

Jean
Guy tells me that usually it is - 20 here at this time, with a few feet of snow,
but this year it is -8. All the trails were groomed around Christmas but melted
in the rain. Today they got 14 or 15 inches.
Chibougamau is 9 hrs from Montreal, and 6 hours from Quebec
City .They await another ten inches tonight, and it is snowing strong. There are
reports starting to trickle into me of new snow all over Quebec. Shawinigan got
10 inches. More soon. Stay tuned. Never say die! Some places will be groomed by
this weekend for sure, but early season conditions will be the rule - watch out
for rocks, branches, no signage, unsafe waterways, and other dangers... as usual.
I
spoke to the President just now; Mario Simard, great guy, he says all three Gilbert
conversion groomers will be heading out first thin Tuesday morning. They groom
330 kms of trail in total. By this weekend, they should have things moving nicely.

8 2007 -
Bernard at Safari Motel says he got a foot
today. Says might groom in the morning.
Map man Denny
at the CHUTE in St Michel, got 6 inche and they may groom in a day or two, weatherman
calling for below freezing and more snow this week.
Many
areas of Quebec got snow. Mont Laurier got a few inches (ontop of grass) Remeber,
it all has to freeze up again.
St-Michel-des
Saints: Map man Denny at theChutesays
got 3 - 4 inches of snowm yesterday. Today it is -10C and sunshine. Cold to last
all week so the lakes will keep freezing nicely, and they will keep the little
snow they have.
Groomer
will be going our - Fernand told Denny - Through the park, to Rouge Matawin, possibly
around the Lake -360. The club will take this 4 inches and make good trails -
they are very good at this. There is some frozen base now from the last melt.
The boys in
St-Michele got together on several work bees over the past weeks, and worked very
hard on the big hill behind the Montagnard in St-Michele, and several other trouble
spots. They added 4 inch gravel in many places to improve things.
They
have many of the snowmobile signs up now, but not on the Lake Taurau.
The
old 'Domaine du Lac Toro has a new owner, and will be open in January, calling
itself Auberge au vieux Shaman.
Forecast:
Cold. The club will do their best to have some riding, the park shd be pretty
good because the melt did not decimate it completely, so the 4 inches will look
pretty good on thatr base. The riding will not be for complainers this weekend,
but it looks like there will be riding. Be sure to call the Denny at the Chute,
or Real Masse, before heading up. They will have a good handle on the situation.
St-Michel-des
Saints: Map man Denny at theChutesays it is snowing this morning
in St-Michel des Saints, so far about 2 inches, and it is supposed to snow all
day. supposed to get 10 to 25 cm.
Val
Dor: Joanne at Auberge
Cartier in Val D'Or, says the weather has been around - 10 to -20,
and will continue cold for the next week. It just started snowing this morning,
and should snow through the day and tonight as well. The lakes and waterways are
not all frozen hard yet, so this cold weather is good. No trails yet. Groomer
rarely gets out until Jan 10th.

lakes are frozen over with 11 inches of ice.

Richard of Gite de la Rivière on Monts Valin
Yes, still early
season everywhere.. I have spoken to 5 different places today. The warm spell
last week put the Kibosh on early riding, which is normal, but up in Monts Valin,
they usually are not affected. This year they were.
Spoke
to Richard up there tonight, says it is now -25C at night and snowing. 'By Christmas,
we should have lots of new snow ontop of this one foot base, plus the cold is
helping alot. It is snowing right now, and I just talked to the groomer guy. It
is looking good. `'
Richard agreed with the rider I spoke
to yesterday 'On the weekends it is crazy here, but now that we are getting new
snow, we can open more trails, so by Christmas week, we'll be looking good.'
If
you cannot find anything else for Christmas week, consider staying with Richard.
(This is not Mékinac Richard, this is Monts Valins Richard. I stayed at
his place three years ago. He has added a second bathroom since then, and has
ten small comfortable beds - very clean - 75. cnd a night and includes supper
and breakfast.
Do not forget, this ain't a fancy place -
it is very very basic. Clean and basic. He is working with Yvon at the Resto and
Lise in the other little B&B. Together, these three can handle a small amount
of riders. But if they are full, they will try to find you a bed somewhere.
Yes,
it will be a busy place Christmas week, but what the hey... you wanna ride or
not??
Tell em Zen sent ya. These three are not sponsors
- they are just getting started and I do not want to burden them - I want to help
them! Once they get rolling and established, I can charge them a forune!! :)

Dec 19 - Monts Valins has Snow
After a discouraging mild spell, (to be expected) Monts Valin is back in action.
This is an old photo that I took
on my trip a few years ago. I spoke to four places today, they all say there is
snow. This is Yvon - remember? He and his wife Andrée took care
of me when I went up. I got lots of pictures.
I
just spoke to Louis, a sledder from St-Eustache Quebec, who rode all day and was
enjoying a meal at LaChapelle Resto. He says there are 250 kms of groomed trails
up there right now. The riding is excellent during the week days, but forget the
weekends, too many people, he said. Tonight will be -15C up there. Louis is a
real Quebecer, and I accept his word. If he says it's good - it's good!
You can call a lady that owns a cute little place called Gite du Lac Jaloubert.
Her name is Lise. She has 6 rooms, and she charges 50 cnd per night. She is not
bad in English - but be kind, speak clearly and slowly. I have not met her in
person yet, but she sounds very nice. I would like to help her fill her rooms!
Some people deserve a little help sometimes. If you stay
with her, you eat at the Chapel restaurant. The food is good and they have gas
for the sleds too.

Dec 18 - Monday Morning Trail, Snow, & Weather Report
This
is a new feature for my spoon fed readers! :) I will call some sponsors and get
the info and updates you need, straight from the horses mouth, then dump it right
here where you will litterally TRIP over it! Then, I will cut and past it, over
to my blog
pages.
MONDAY DEC 18
2006; PRAY for Snow!
Monday
Dec 18: Au Pied
de la CHUTE; Spoke to Map Man Denny from Pied de la Chute - he is in Montreal
today, plus 6 C there. Lake Taurau is frozen, but there is water on top of the
ice. Trails are closed. Not good now. Groomed from Cabanon to St-Michel last weekend,
but not cold enough, lots of rocks etc. Wed and Thursday supposed to be cold with
some snow. Has people reserved on the 26th, but will cancel them if things don't
improve.
Monday Dec 18 Rawdon
QC Weather Report:
Steve Solo and Sylvie G. say they are forecasting -11 for tonight! Still 6
inches of snow on the ground - have had freezing rain lately, the lake is open
water in the middle. "The dogs will not walk out onto the lake - they're
smart! Forecast says we will have lots of snow between Christmas and New Years
in Rawdon. No snowmobile tracks yet and no grooming yet."
Monday
Dec 18 Real
Massé Report - From Gilles, 10:30 am Monday Dec 18. "We
had about of foot of snow, the groomers from the Cabanon went out and ran through
the park, and down to the Glaciere, and other places to give the early riders
a thrill. Yesterday it rained here all day, and now I can see my Mini Putt completely.
We are down to about 6 inches on the ground. We only have 5 inches of ice on the
lake, and the temp only hit -10C one time so far this December. The immediate
forecast has 'no snow, and there is no snow in the high north either. Mount Tremblant
(famous ski hill north of Montreal) hit -5 C on the weekend and have the snow
makers going full tilt, but now it is around zero today. My contact in the Gaspé
tells me they usually have lots of snow by this time, but they have the same as
me. The highest ski hills in Mont Anne have the snow makers going full tilt, not
much natural snow. We need a miracle. If we have no improvement or good trails
by the 23rd, we will call all our clients and cancel their reservations."
As usual, the folks at Real
Massé are totally honest. "That is why they have such an
excellent clientele. "There is no use telling someone from Pennsylvania to
drive all this way for nothing. We had mud in the parking lot yesterday - it is
disheartening".
So - Here is the Zen
plan. All you Born Again Sledders out there - and even you heathens, pray
for God's blessing of colder temps and snow! Repent of your sins, ask Jesus to
be your Lord and Savior, then ask him to bless us with a winter! Remember, the
world may seem to be a mess, but God is still in charge right?? Okay then! PRAY
FOR SNOW!
